Bertelsmann Stiftung and its Foundation launch RANGE to examine Transatlantic Relations

By Adam Siegel on September 26, 2022

Cultivate Labs is excited to announce a partnership with The Bertelsmann Stiftung, an independent foundation headquartered in Germany, and the Washington, DC-based Bertelsmann Foundation, part of the Stiftung’s international network. The Stiftung and its Foundation recently launched RANGE (Rethinking Assumptions in a New Geostrategic Environment) to crowdsource forecast critical topics like systemic rivalry with China, climate change, democracy, geopolitics, trade, and economics, all from the perspective of the transatlantic relationship.

At a critical time for strengthening global relations, the Stiftung and its Foundation aim to engage an international audience in understanding how the transatlantic relationship affects us all, and how it can and should be shaped for the future. RANGE will support this work in building a diverse community of forecasters to infuse new, ongoing, accurate, and insightful perspectives into analysis and recommendations for U.S. and European policymakers.

While RANGE is open to the general public, it will focus on recruiting students in international relations from around the world, professionals from other Foundations and think tanks, and passionate forecasters from other forecasting platforms who wish to contribute their insight to these particular topics.

Participating in RANGE will present forecasters an opportunity to use a new type of analysis in their own work while practicing and improving their critical thinking skills, testing their own assumptions, and sharpening their views on the critical issues the Stiftung and Bertelsmann Foundation will be providing analysis on to policymakers.

Unlike a survey, it is not necessary for a forecaster to submit forecasts on all questions and topics. The forecaster may select questions specific to their fields of interest and willingness to commit time.

RANGE already has 20+ forecasting questions available for you to participate in, such as: “Will the EU and the US create a Transatlantic Green Alliance by 2023?” and “Will US & EU trade with China increase between 2022 and 2023?”
